Mladá Boleslav, 11 July, 2012 – ŠKODA AUTO is testing its fleet of ŠKODA Octavia Green E Line electro-mobiles together with another renowned partner: from now on, two test ŠKODA vehicles will be used by ČEZ, Central Europe's biggest energy supplier. Planned to last for one year, this test operation is expected to produce data on suitability of electric drive for everyday use. Towards this end, ČEZ will build charging points in and around Mladá Boleslav.
"ČEZ is a perfect partner to test our ŠKODA Octavia Green E Line vehicles," says Petr Kristl, Head of Development of Electro-mobility/Electric Traction at ŠKODA AUTO. "Our close cooperation with this energy company is significant in developing electric mobility. This test operation will produce valuable data regarding electro-mobiles' driving properties in everyday traffic and the recharging process." Besides new technical solutions the expected outcomes include new ideas for relevant business models. "The objective is to offer electro-mobile owners a complete package of products and services, such as advantageous power tariffs and attractive financing solutions," explains Kristl. Furthermore, the Head of Development of Electro-mobility/Electric Traction at ŠKODA AUTO expects this test operation results to contribute to an extension of electro-mobiles' limited range per charge and a reduction of their purchase prices.
ČEZ will use two ŠKODA Octavia Green E Line cars for one year. The electro-mobiles with a 150-km range will be used in Prague's urban traffic as well as for short business trips outside the Czech Republic's capital. Towards this end, the energy company will build new battery rechargers in and around Mladá Boleslav.
"We appreciate this cooperation with Škoda Auto. It is an opportunity to take the development of electro-mobility in the Czech Republic a few steps forward", says Tomáš Chmelík, Head of Clean Technologies at ČEZ. "The logic of this cooperation between Central Europe's biggest energy company and Central Europe's biggest car manufacturer is pretty obvious, and I am optimistic that this is only the beginning of extensive cooperation in electric mobility," adds Chmelík.
The two white ŠKODA electro-mobile estates that have been handed over to ČEZ are part of a fleet of ten ŠKODA Octavia Green E Line electro-mobiles which are tested in daily traffic conditions on Czech roads. The first of these test vehicles that have been used by various partners of ŠKODA since March 2012 have already done over 50,000 kilometres.
The ŠKODA Octavia Green E Line is based on the ŠKODA Octavia Combi. The electric motor offers a power of as much as 85 kW, the vehicle's 0-100 km/h acceleration is only twelve seconds and its maximum speed is 135 km/h. The electric energy comes from a lithium-ion battery; the recharging time is slightly over two hours. With a range-per-charge of 150 km, the vehicle is designed to meet the requirements most European commuters have for an electro-mobile.
The Czech carmaker's activities involving electric mobility are an important pillar of its extensive drive and fuel strategy, along with continuous enhancements of its highly efficient TDI and TSI engines and related transmissions.
