Mladá Boleslav, March 22nd, 2011 – Škoda has opened a new training center for the pressing plant in Mladá Boleslav. It is the eighth training center of the company overall. It was only a few weeks ago that a new training center for the paint shop was commissioned. In doing so, the Czech manufacturer continues to invest heavily in the know-how of its employees. During the current business year, other facilities of this kind will begin operations at Škoda locations in Mladá Boleslav, Kvasiny, and Aurangabad (India) as well.

"Our growth course for the next years will challenge employees in the plants in a special way," emphasized Michael Oeljeklaus, the Škoda board member for production and logistics. "In order for us to achieve our goals, we will significantly increase production in all plants in the coming years. For that purpose, we need a perfectly trained team that is proficient in all manufacturing processes. Our new training center for the pressing plant is an important prerequisite for top-rated performances in this important manufacturing step and provides – just like the training facilities in other areas – the necessary knowhow for the entire team.

The Czech automobile manufacturer possesses a dense network of training centers in its facilities. In all three Czech plants and in the Indian plant in Aurangabad, there are socalled "lean centers" and training centers for the production steps car body construction, paint shop, engine manufacture, logistics, and vehicle assembly. To date, more than 10,000 employees have been trained in these centers.

One focus of the new training center for the pressing plant lies in the improvement of the procedures for inspecting body parts. The preparation of tools and the operation of measuring equipment are also part of the training program. Furthermore, employees learn how to de-stack parts in an ergonomically optimal manner. In order to be able to practice processes and activities realistically, there is an assembly line with real parts from the pressing plant for the practical simulation of the manufacturing process.
