Mladá Boleslav/Stockholm/Helsinki, 30th April 2013 – As official vehicle fleet for the 77th IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships, 45 new ŠKODA Octavia Combi were presented to the World Championship Organizing Committee in Helsinki and Stockholm. ŠKODA supports the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships for the 21st time already as main official sponsor. The championships will be held from the 3rd to 19th May 2013 in Stockholm and Helsinki.

The use of the new ŠKODA Octavia Combi vehicles as a shuttle – all in Candy white - only a few weeks after the world premiere and parallel to the start of sales on the initial markets. "The use at one of the most important sporting events in the world is a fantastic start for the new ŠKODA Octavia Combi", said Werner Eichhorn, ŠKODA AUTO Director for Sales and Marketing.

The new ŠKODA Octavia Combi provides space in its most beautiful form and is convincing due to its high functionality, innovative technology and dynamic, elegant design. "In 2012, the Octavia Combi was the most sold estate car in Europe. The IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship is a perfect stage for premieres for new editions of our top seller and gives us great momentum for introduction to the market in parallel", said Eichhorn. The 45 white ŠKODA shuttle vehicles will be primarily used for transportation between the World Championship arenas, airports, hotels and other destinations in the host towns of Stockholm and Helsinki. All bear the official World Championship design.

Already since 1993 the Czech Republic car manufacturer supports the annually held IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships. From the very beginning, the official IIHF WM fleet of vehicles played a major role in the sponsoring activities. The annual fleet of 40 to 50 cars have completed approximately 5.2 million kilometers in the past 21 years. That equates to circumnavigating the earth approximately 125 times – without a single journey interrupted through a technical malfunction. On average, the vehicles cover a distance of nearly 250.000 kilometers at each IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship.

The manifold ŠKODA activities within the framework of the 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship are particularly reflecting the current model offensive. In addition to using the fleet of vehicles, the new ŠKODA Octavia Combi, together with the new Octavia Limousine and other models of the brand, will also be present around both World Championship arenas. Thus, the new Octavia Limousine and new Octavia Combi will draw attention directly on the ice rink of the stadiums in Stockholm and Helsinki.

The ŠKODA commitment is the longest main sponsoring in the history of World Championships in sport and is even recognized as an official GUINNESS world record.
