Mladá Boleslav, 16 June, 2011 – ŠKODA Auto has won the 2011 Employer Without Barriers award. The patron of this special category of the Employer of the Year awards is Konto BARIÉRY (BARRIERS Account).
The Employer Without Barriers award highlights companies that employ handicapped people because of skills that are unaffected by their handicaps. The jury reviews the participating employers' performance in terms of a number of aspects, including the levels of positions held by their handicapped employees, the possibility of adapting their working time to meet their health needs, the degree of support the handicapped employees get in terms of professional development, the employer's interest in their leisure time activities, the degree of elimination of physical barriers on the worksite, as well as the company's motivation to employ handicapped people and offer them career growth opportunities.
"ŠKODA Auto and OS KOVO (trade union organisation) have been actively integrating handicapped people into our workforce for many years, the objective being to give them a chance to grow on both the professional and personal sides of their lives. We want to serve as a good example for other companies, i.e. show them that helping people who've had a little less luck than the others is right," said Chairman of OS KOVO at ŠKODA Auto Jaroslav Povšík and Head of Occupational Health & Safety at ŠKODA Auto Dr. Miroslav Bartoš.
ŠKODA Auto has been operating sheltered workshops on its sites for five years, employing over 200 handicapped employees in its manufacturing plants. The company has been opening one new sheltered workshop a year since early 2006 when it opened its first one. Five of these workshops (the most recently opened one is operated by the Fokus association) are in the Mladá Boleslav plant, one is in Kvasiny.
"ŠKODA Auto's social policy goes beyond the requirements set by law. Helping handicapped people, our sheltered workshops play an important social role. Besides people with handicaps, we also support individuals with impaired working ability, such as pregnant women and single mothers who need to have a chance to adapt their working hours flexibly or work part time", adds ŠKODA Auto BOD Member for HR Bohdan Wojnar.
