Ieper, 28 June 2013 – ŠKODA driver Freddy Loix dominated the first day at his home rally in Belgium. In rainy conditions, the 42-year-old rallying legend and his co-driver Frederic Miclotte put on a stunning display at the FIA European Rally Championship's (ERC) sixth meeting of the season, winning five of the six stages.

"I'm happy. Everything is going well – the ŠKODA is just great and we were able to push right from the start. However, the stages proved to be quite tricky due to the poor weather conditions," said Loix.

Loix was able to get off to the perfect start this year too, as he finished quickest in the qualifying stage – this gave him the right to choose his starting position for the rally. "I chose to go first as I knew it would rain and I'd have clean lines." His lead over second-placed Bryan Bouffier from France already stands at 1:36.2 minutes.

"We have a lead, but there is still a long way to go. We have to keep focused," said Loix as he weighed up the situation before tomorrow's big day. On Saturday, the drivers have to battle their way through a further 196.07 kilometres split into 14 stages. With 20 stages covering 297.93 kilometres in total, Belgium's historic rally is the longest in the ERC's calendar.
