Škoda celebrates its this year's rally championship titles
Big auction of Juho Hänninen's racing overalls
Škody´s involvement in motorsport to continue
Prague, 21 November, 2010 – As the conclusion to and the climax of its highly successful 2010 season, the "Škoda rally family" got together on 20 November in Prague. This year's Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC) champions, all the reigning national champions, as well as many other people taking part in the successful Fabia Super 2000 project attended the Škoda Champions Gala Evening to celebrate the brand's victory in both IRC competitions (Drivers and Manufacturers) plus six national championship titles. The event saw an auction of the racing overalls of the IRC Champion Juho Hänninen the proceeds of which are going to be donated to the Abandoned Children Foundation run by ex-top model Tereza Maxová.
"This year's rally season was indeed fantastic for Škoda, one of the most successful ones in the history of nearly 110 years of our motorsport efforts. Especially great is the fact that it has also been successful on the business side – we have already delivered nearly 30 cars to private customers. Škoda Auto is proud of this achievement and is going to continue its involvement in motorsport also in the years to come", stressed Škoda Auto BOD Chairman Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland.
The main sporting star of the evening, the new IRC Champion Juho Hänninen, was moved: "This evening is a very emotional end to this great season. You have to be highly concentrated when the competition is in progress, but now I am completely relaxed and I'm enjoying every moment".
The 2010 season has indeed been enormously successful: Škoda Motorsport (factory team) won the IRC Manufacturers competition and Škoda's factory crew Juho Hänninen & Mikko Markkula dominated the Drivers competition, followed by their teammates Jan Kopecký & Petr Starý. Škoda celebrated victory at seven events in total, of which Juho Hänninen won three, Freddy Loix three and Jan Kopecký one. Furthermore, the Czech-based brand has won six national championship titles with Fabias Super 2000 this year: Matthias Kahle/Peter Göbel in Germany, Pavel Valoušek/Zdeněk Hrůza in the Czech Republic, Raimund Baumschlager/Thomas Zeltner in Austria, Rogher Feghali/Nabil Njeim in Lebanon, Alberto Hevia/Alberto Iglesias in Spain and Jozef Béreš/Róbert Müller in Slovakia.
