Mladá Boleslav, 2 June 2014 – ŠKODA's 4×4 product range is stronger than ever before. With cutting-edge all-wheel-drive technology, ŠKODA cars offer great performance and safety on all roads. ŠKODA's current 4×4 range consists of five 4×4 models: ŠKODA Octavia Combi 4×4, ŠKODA Yeti 4×4 and ŠKODA Yeti Outdoor 4×4 as well as the ŠKODA Superb 4×4 and ŠKODA Superb Combi 4×4. This means that in the compact and mid-class segment, ŠKODA has the most modern and broadest range of 4×4 vehicles in Europe. At the end of August 2014, the new ŠKODA Octavia Scout, as presented at the Geneva Motor Show, will be launched, increasing the brand's 4×4 model range to six models.
"Our all-wheel-drive range is the strongest in the company's history," says ŠKODA CEO Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland. "With this, ŠKODA proves its 4×4 competence in the compact and mid-class segment. Since 2008, we have tripled our 4×4 sales and increased the proportion of all-wheel-drive vehicles to more than 20% within the relevant ŠKODA range. The modern all-wheel-drive range is making a significant contribution to the growth of the company," says Prof. Dr. Vahland.
The Czech brand has been competing in the all-wheel-drive segment successfully since 1999: between 1999 and the end of 2013, ŠKODA sold a total of around 386,400 all-wheel-drive vehicles worldwide. Since 2008 the manufacturer tripled its annual 4×4 sales to around 60,100 cars in 2013. Between January and April 2014 alone, the brand supplied around 24,400 ŠKODA all-wheel-drive vehicles to customers worldwide.
The Octavia is the Czech manufacturer's best-selling 4×4 model series by far (1999 to April 2014: 219,900 vehicles), followed by the Yeti (2009 to April 2014: 144,400 vehicles) and the Superb series (2008 to April 2014: 46,500 vehicles).
Cutting-edge all-wheel-drive technology with Haldex clutch
ŠKODA's all-wheel-drive vehicles feature a cutting-edge Haldex clutch. The Haldex clutch is an electronically-controlled multi-plate clutch. With permanent all-wheel drive, it enables proportional distribution of drive between front and rear axles.
The all-wheel-drive system is smart, precise and fast. Driving conditions are constantly assessed and a control unit calculates the ideal driving torque for the rear axle. Traction loss is therefore virtually eliminated. When coasting or at low load, drive is via the front axle. This saves fuel.
The ŠKODA Octavia Combi 4×4: an all-wheel-drive class of its own
The third Octavia generation launched in mid-2013 impresses with optimal handling. The range of engines includes two diesel engines (1.6 TDI/77 kW, 2.0 TDI/110 kW) and one petrol engine (1.8 TSI/132 kW). Fuel consumption is on average 14% below the vehicle's predecessor's values.
ŠKODA Superb 4×4 and ŠKODA Superb Combi 4×4: powerful flagships
The ŠKODA Superb 4×4 and ŠKODA Superb Combi 4×4 models are shining examples of mid-range all-wheel-drive vehicles. In 2008 (Superb) and 2009 (Superb Combi), the brand's flagships became available with all-wheel drive. Around 46,500 customers have already chosen one of these two models.
In mid-2013, the ŠKODA Superb and ŠKODA Superb Combi were fully updated. The Superb all-wheel-drive vehicles have therefore become even more desirable. For the ŠKODA Superb 4×4 2.0 TDI/125 kW, the much sought-after combination of all-wheel drive with automatic DSG transmission has become available for the first time. All-wheel drive is available with two petrol and two diesel engines.
ŠKODA Yeti and ŠKODA Yeti Outdoor: two new design variants
From the end of 2013, the ŠKODA Yeti has been available in two variants for the first time: the elegant ŠKODA Yeti for the city and the ŠKODA Yeti Outdoor designed for all-terrain use and adventure.
The all-wheel-drive Yeti 2.0 TDI/125 kW is available with automatic six-speed DSG transmission. All-wheel drive in the Yeti comes with a choice of four engines: 1.8 TSI/118 kW, 2.0 TDI/81 kW, 2.0 TDI/103 kW and 2.0 TDI/125 kW.
