Düsseldorf/Mladá Boleslav, November 21st, 2012 – Just weeks after its introduction on the German market, the ŠKODA Rapid ranked tops at Auto Trophy 2012, a contest held by AUTO ZEITUNG magazine. Over 110,000 readers chose ŠKODA's compact saloon as the winner in the 'most affordable car' category. ŠKODA's newcomer the Citigo compact SUV the Yeti also came tops in their categories, rounding off the brand's excellent showing

The ŠKODA Rapid impresses with lots of space, an expressive design, excellent price-value ratio, comprehensive safety equipment and efficient engines. The new model sets new standards in the compact saloon class a roomy, elegant and at the same time affordable car for the whole family. The ŠKODA Rapid offers its customers clever solutions, advanced technology and excellent economy.

Winning the Auto Trophy is the second major success for the ŠKODA Rapid, having made third place in the 'Golden steering wheel' awarded by Auto Bild and Bild am Sonntag newspapers shortly before. The Rapid's timeless design, advanced technology and spacious interior set standards in its class.

Vahland praised the Auto Trophy for being based on drivers drawing on extensive day-to-day experience in choosing which models should receive the coveted trophy.

This year marked the 25th time AUTO ZEITUNG invited its readers to present the most popular cars with the coveted Auto Trophy. Two other ŠKODA products made first place at this jubilee edition of the contest, the Citigo taking the top spot in the 'Citicars' import class and the Yeti compact SUV winning the 'SUV below 30,000 euros' import category.

In addition, ŠKODA models the Superb, Roomster and Fabia made the top three in their respective import categories 'Luxury class', 'Vans' and 'Compacts', making ŠKODA one of the big winners in the Auto Trophy. AUTO ZEITUNG says this year's 110,825 readers' votes are a new record in the event's 25-year history and "a sound base for honouring the most popular cars in Germany."
