Mladá Boleslav, December 14th, 2011 – The ŠKODA Rapid is the "Family Car of the Year" in India. The new compact sedan was honored with this award by the well-respected Indian car magazine, "Top Gear India." The Rapid represents the sixth model series worldwide by the Czech manufacturer and addresses the growing segment of compact sedans on the Indian market. The vehicle, which is produced in Pune, gives particular consideration to the wishes of Indian customers and will, subsequently, strengthen the position of ŠKODA in India.

"We are delighted that the Rapid has already received this renowned award just a few days after its official launch," says Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland, the chairman of the board of ŠKODA. "We want to accelerate our worldwide growth in the coming years considerably. The Indian market plays a central role in that effort. With the Rapid, ŠKODA is also present in the largest vehicle segment of the Indian market. Honoring the model as the "Family Car of the Year" in India shows us that we are on the right path."

The Rapid is a car that is being built both in India and for India. Top Gear was won over by the overall concept of the vehicle, which offers generous space, an attractive design, good safety equipment, and modern technology in equal measure. "The Rapid is a car for the entire family and for a multitude of applications. An all-round talent – simply a true ŠKODA," emphasizes Winfried Vahland.

ŠKODA has an excellent starting position for the growth it plans to achieve in India. Active in the country since the year 2001, the brand anticipates exceeding the threshold of 20,000 vehicles sold for the first time this year. Overall, approximately 121,000 vehicles found buyers here within the last ten years.
