Mladá Boleslav, December 22th, 2011 – ŠKODA supports the European project ECOWILL for the promotion of fuel-efficient driving. The car manufacturer provides training classrooms as well as vehicles of its GreenLine and GreenTec versions for educational seminars given to driving instructors, which are held within in the framework of the project in the Czech Republic.

The objective of the EU-sponsored project ECOWILL lies in the promotion of fuel-efficient driving – the so-called eco-driving. For this purpose, tightly arranged eco-driving courses for both licensed and experienced drivers are to be introduced in the medium term and student drivers are to be trained in eco-driving.

The current ECOWILL seminars serve in qualifying driving instructors and harmonizing the education in environmentally friendly driving. The recently conducted two-day seminars in the Czech Republic were attended by twenty-two driving instructors as well as by representatives of the Czech ministry of transportation who participated as observers.

Besides developing economic vehicles, ŠKODA has been focusing for years on the issue of fuel-efficient driving within the framework of its sustainability strategy. For example, the company has already supported the ŠKODA Economy Run – a fuel economy competition conducted with ŠKODA models – for the 30th time this year. Moreover, the Austrian "master of fuel-efficiency" Gerhard Plattner completed a new record-breaking trip in a ŠKODA Fabia GreenLine. The result: A distance of 2,008 kilometers driven without refueling. This represents a fuel consumption of a mere 2.21 liters per 100 kilometers. Another fuel efficiency record in a ŠKODA was achieved by the Chinese rally driver Li Zhi a few days ago. Driving a ŠKODA Superb, Li Zhi covered the distance of 1,200 kilometers from Shanghai to Beijing on just one tankful of gas. The fuel consumption of the Superb 1.4 TSI was less than 4.5 liters per 100 kilometers.
