Mladá Boleslav, September 10th, 2012 – Not just one but several vintage ŠKODAs made it into the winners' lists at the "Schloss Bensberg Classics" near Cologne, Germany. The elegant ŠKODA Popular Monte Carlo coupé won the high-profile "Rallye Historique". Other ŠKODA models also took honours at the fourth edition of this vintage car event in Bergisches Land in Western Germany.

In the ŠKODA Popular Monte Carlo coupé, a real jewel of an automobile won at Bensberg castle. Driven by the ŠKODA Auto Museum team, the ŠKODA Popular Monte Carlo won the 2012 "Schloss Bensberg Classics" in category 3, "pre-1945, hourglass timing." In all, only 72 ŠKODA Popular Monte Carlo cabriolet and coupé were made between 1936 and 1938 as a special edition of the ŠKODA Popular. The occasion for the special production run was ŠKODA's success at the 1936 Monte Carlo Rally. Below the bonnet of the ŠKODA Popular Monte Carlo is a 1,386 ccm, 30 HP four-cylinder four-stroke engine. The coupé's top speed is 110 kph.

A ŠKODA also won category 2 of the "Rallye Historique" (1946 to 1979 production years, electronic timing), a ŠKODA 130 RS driven by the ŠKODA Auto Deutschland team.

The "Schloss Bensberg Classics" were held for the fourth time in 2012. The event is one of the most important gatherings of classic cars representing illustrious high points of automobile history. Two years ago, the "Schloss Bensberg Classics" were admitted to the "Louis Vuitton Classic Concours Award," placing the event in a line with renowned competitions such as Pebble Beach, California and Villa d'Este in Italy.

Under the motto "Very important cars only," exceptional classic cars presented themselves for three days (September 7th through 9th) against the majestic backdrop of baroque Bensberg castle. In all, nearly 90 vintage cars competed in the four categories of the "Rallye Historique," which took participants about 200 kilometres across picturesque Bergisches Land in western Germany. The focus was on drivers' precision as they submitted to numerous regularity tests requiring the cars to pass checkpoints within a defined time period. The competition included separate rankings for mechanical and electronic measuring instruments and admitted cars built before 1979.

In addition to this "Rallye Historique," a "Concours d'Elégance" featured some of the most beautiful and most sought-after classic automobiles in the world, with ŠKODA presenting another extraordinary treasure: the 1932 ŠKODA 860 open-top luxury car. Between 1929 and 1933, less than 100 were made.
