Mladá Boleslav, 18 March, 2013 – Getting ready for this year´s third event of the European Rally Championship (ERC) scheduled to take place in Gran Canaria over 21 - 23 March, ŠKODA Motorsport is looking to repeat its victory from last year. The Rally Islas Canarias will see Jan Kopecký & Pavel Dresler make their second appearance in the 2013 ERC. The factory crew won the opening event, the Jänner Rally in Austria.

ŠKODA has great memories of the past three seasons – drivers of factory ŠKODA Fabia Super 2000s won the event for three consecutive years. Jan Kopecký is looking forward to his favourite asphalt rally: "The "Canaries" are one of our most favourite events. ŠKODA has won this event three times in a row in the last three years, and my name is associated with two of these victories – now we are looking to continue this success story. The tracks here are excellent, with perfect asphalt grip. Our ambition is to fight for the top ranks again".

Last year Kopecký & Dresler won the Canary Islands event after beating [their teammates] Andreas Mikkelsen & Ola Floene in an exciting battle that remained undecided until the very last special stage. The only ERC event so far to have seen ŠKODA´s factory crew in action this year saw a similar thriller – Kopecký & Dresler won the championship-opening Jänner Rally after beating Bryan Bouffier & Olivier Fournier by just 0.5 sec, also in the last special stage.

Taking place in the surroundings of Las Palmas, the centre of the event, the Rally Islas Canarias will offer 14 special stages (246 special-stage kilometres), and the winner will be known on Saturday late afternoon.
