Once again, ŠKODA is sending a clear message at one of the world's most important sporting events. The Czech car manufacturer has been supporting the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships since 1992, out of which 21 years as official main sponsor, thus making ŠKODA's commitment the longest main sponsorship in the history of sports world championships. This unique long-term partnership has even been officially acknowledged as a GUINNESS WORLD RECORD. Once again in 2013, an integral part of ŠKODA's support consists of exclusively providing the official world championship car fleet, this time with 45 new ŠKODA Octavia Combis for transportation within the venue cities of Stockholm and Helsinki.

"Ice hockey is a cornerstone of ŠKODA's global sponsorship strategy and sustainably enhances the image and awareness of the brand," says ŠKODA CEO Prof. Dr. h. c. Winfried Vahland. He continues, "Our involvement in this year's IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship is very much a part of our current model offensive. Just in time for its official market launch, the new Octavia Combi will be getting the world championship officials and guests on the road". The new Octavia Combi will subsequently be launched onto the market in May. Furthermore, the ŠKODA brand is visible on the helmets and jerseys of the Czech, Slovakian and Norwegian teams. Attention will also be drawn to the new Octavia hatchback and Octavia Combi directly at the ice rinks of the Stockholm and Helsinki arenas. ŠKODA is even providing an entertainment program around the areas in Stockholm and Helsinki.

Traditionally, all IIHF WM officials and guests are driven in ŠKODA vehicles. The annual fleet of between 40 and 50 cars has completed around 5.2 million kilometres in the last 21 years. That is the equivalent of 125 times around the globe – without one single technical breakdown.

ŠKODA is committed to its long-term sponsorship of the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships. Already at an early stage, the manufacturer had signed a five year extension to the current contract with the International Ice Hockey Federation and their marketing partner Infront Sports & Media AG till 2017. "We want to grow more in the coming years and, above all, increase our position internationally. The IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, as one of the world's most famous annual sporting events, is a perfect stage for the brand and our models," emphasises the ŠKODA CEO.
