Mladá Boleslav, 20 September, 2011 – The IRC Championship continues with its ninth event this weekend, the 53rd San Remo Rally. ŠKODA Motorsport will use the fresh IRC leaders and winners of the last two events, Jan Kopecký and Petr Starý. Beside them, the crews to drive Fabia Super 2000s include Freddy Loix & Fréderic Miclotte (supported by ŠKODA's Belgian importer) and Andreas Mikkelsen & Ola Floene of ŠKODA UK Motorsport.

Kopecký & Starý won the last two events in the Czech Republic and Hungary, changing the history of the tightest IRC victories in each of them. Kopecký's ambition for the upcoming rally is to seal his IRC lead and improve his last year's sixth place, but Loix has not yet given up the fight for the IRC title and Mikkelsen will certainly want to make up for his bad luck in Hungary where he lost a clear victory in the last-but-one stage.

Jan Kopecký: "San Remo is a challenge for me and Petr, we didn't do well here last year. The track in San Remo is beautiful, very technical, slower than e.g. that in Hungary and rather complicated in terms of the pace notes. We will prepare as best as we can to seal our position before the season end."

Freddy Loix: "The rally in Hungary was very fast, and now I am looking forward to the track in San Remo that is more technical. I need to achieve a good result to remain in contact with the top drivers of the current overall standings before the season's last two, coefficient-based events."

The San Remo Rally is this year's last event with the standard number of points to win - the points at the last two events (Scotland and Cyprus) are coefficient-based. The rally includes 13 stages (226 kilometres), the winner will be known on Saturday night.
