Mladá Boleslav, 11 June, 2012 – ŠKODA looks to continue its string of good performances in the fifth event of the 2012 IRC Championship to take place in Sicily. Jan Kopecký & Pavel Dresler of ŠKODA Motorsport (factory team) are going to make their first-ever appearance in this event. The other factory Fabia Super 2000 will be driven by reigning IRC champions Andreas Mikkelsen & Ola Floene of ŠKODA UK Motorsport.
Taking place in Sicily and also known as the Targa Florio, the fifth event of this year's IRC series has replaced the originally planned rally in Hungary to become part of the IRC calendar for the first time in history.
Jan Kopecký before the Sicilian Rally: "This is a new event in the IRC calendar, and I am sure the Italian "hawks" will be pretty fast. With a limited number of routes to be done repeatedly, the format of this rally is rather unusual, and there will be no space for any mistakes. Pavel and I are already looking forward a great deal to this new challenge".
The rally is also part of the Italian Championship. With just five different routes to be done repeatedly, the format of the event is rather unusual. The programme includes 11 special stages in total (170 kilometres).
