Mladá Boleslav, 14 September, 2011 – For the first time in its history, ŠKODA is organising its own cycling race open to the public. Called 2011 ŠKODA Cycling Challenge, the event will take place in the Freestyle Park in Modřany (Prague) on 18 September, and is open to all cycling enthusiasts. To increase the attractiveness of the race, ŠKODA has invited a number of professional cyclists, including cyclo-cross world champion Zdeněk Štybar and cross-country World Cup winner and world champion Jaroslav Kulhavý.

"The event is going to be a cycling feast", says ŠKODA Board Member for Sales and Marketing Jürgen Stackmann. "The ŠKODA Cycling Challenge is another building block in our cycling-related efforts. Cycling is one of the most dynamic and most fascinating sports of our time, and also one of the most popular spare-time activities. Our new race combines both – sport and spare time."

The ŠKODA Cycling Challenge offers four categories in total – Pro Race (70km) for professionals, amateurs and teams; Fitness Race (35km) for families, teams and individuals; Fun Race (15km) for anybody; and Yeti Cup (400m-4km) for children. Registration is possible on www.scc2011.cz or in the start area on the event date (the race starts at 10:00 AM).

ŠKODA has prepared an attractive programme for all, including for those who are not going to take part in the race. The race participants will have all-day access to repair and maintenance services (a team of technicians), healthcare services and refreshments. All event visitors are offered free admission to the Freestyle Park in Modřany, concerts by The Coolers and Monkey Business, a number of unique shows and other forms entertainment. The registration fee proceeds will be donated to Kapka naděje, a foundation for children suffering from oncological diseases.

The ŠKODA Cycling Challenge extends ŠKODA's extensive portfolio of cycling-related efforts. ŠKODA is one of the main partners of the Pro Tour series – the Tour de France, the Giro d'Italia and the Vuelta. Besides professional cycling, the Czech-based carmaker is involved in numerous projects for enthusiasts, such as the popular Bike for Life in the Czech Republic and the Berlin Velothon.
