Mladá Boleslav, July 27, 2012 – As part of its growth strategy, ŠKODA AUTO expands and modernizes its triple-base facilities in the Czech Republic, making use of the ŠKODA factories' vacation from July 30 to August 12, 2012. Taking opportunity of its two-week production break, the corporation launches a phase of modernization and expansion activities.
The main plant in Mladá Boleslav is setting out at full steam for the start of production of new ŠKODA models. The automobile manufacturer therefore takes advantage of the vacation time to make relevant preparations at the factory in Mladá Boleslav. Beginning this fall, a new compact limousine, the ŠKODA Rapid, is to roll out to the dealers, first on the Czech market, then on other European markets.
The countdown has started also setting up the production of the DSG dual-clutch gearboxes DQ200 in the North-Bohemian factory in Vrchlabí. Beginning September 2012, ŠKODA will make the multiple-brand DQ200s for the corporation. Initially, the capacity starts at 1,000 gearboxes per day. From mid-2013, the maximum production rate should be at 1,500 DQ200 gearboxes daily. Also the branch factory in Kvasiny will be rebuilt: changes will be made amongst others in the body construction department, the paint shop, and the assembly lines.
"ŠKODA is making its Czech locations fit for growth in the years to come", says Michael Oeljeklaus, ŠKODA Production and Logistics Manager, emphatically. "We want to build and sell at least 1.5 million cars a year by 2018, as part of our Growth Strategy 2018. With the capacity expansion, we aim to set up the necessary prerequisites. How consistently we manage to pursue our plans is clearly demonstrated in the intensification of our corporation's investment efforts during the first six months", adds Oeljeklaus.
In addition to the above product/component initiatives, ŠKODA is about to launch yet other important construction projects in the coming weeks – for instance, a completely new central warehouse in the manufacturer's home base in Mladá Boleslav. The ŠKODA Parts Center for spare parts and accessories is being expanded, too. At present, about half of the construction projects have been completed. Yet another centrally implemented project involves the expansion of the ŠKODA Technology Center in Česana near Mladá Boleslav, which will be accommodated in a new building, built in successive phases from 2013 until 2015. Moreover, the ŠKODA Museum in Mladá Boleslav is undergoing an extensive renovation – the reopening event is foreseen to take place still this year.
