Mladá Boleslav, 20 September, 2010 – The upcoming 32nd Příbram Rally will be the climax of this year's International Czech Rally Championship. Taking place in the surroundings of Příbram, the last event of the seven-race campaign is going to see Pavel Valoušek and Zdeněk Hrůza of Škoda Delimax, the team that currently tops the rankings, fight for their first-ever championship title. As usual, the crew are going to drive a factory-supported Škoda Fabia S2000.
Who is going to win the Czech championship this year, Valoušek or Pech? That is the question asked by the entire Czech motorsport community these days. The battle for the golden cup is still undecided – Valoušek is only 14 points ahead of Pech. However, the points for the Czech Championship are awarded not just for the overall victory (30 points), but also for the respective stages (9 points for each stage won), which means that should it be Václav Pech who wins the Příbram Rally, Pavel Valoušek has to come at least second on Day 1, at least third on Day 2 and third overall to win the title. Roman Kresta, third in the overall rankings, is already out of this battle, i.e., he cannot win enough points to beat the first two, Valoušek and Pech.
Commenting on the situation, Pavel Valoušek says: "It is thrilling, and it's also fascinating how tight this year's championship actually is. I know that if I hadn't made a mistake at the Bohemia Rally where I had an accident and had to give the race up, my position before the final battle could have been even better than it is now, but it's sport, and I'm going to fight for the title!". Born in Otrokovice, Valoušek has a chance to win his first Czech championship title in Příbram. Škoda's last Czech title dates back to 2004 (Kopecký – Schovánek with a Škoda Fabia WRC).
NOTE FOR EDITORS:
The seven-race Mediasport International Czech Rally Championship is very tight this year, largely owing to an influx of S2000 vehicles. Regularly appearing on the start line with a Škoda Fabia S2000, Pavel Valoušek and Zdeněk Hrůza are a young crew of the Škoda Delimax Team, a top-class team supported by the Škoda Auto factory. Roman Kresta (Zlín) and Josef Peták (Příbram) drive Peugeots 207 S2000, Jaromír Tarabus drives a Ford Fiesta S2000. Furthermore, Group N cars that are subject to new technical rules this year are also very fast. The main reason why Václav Pech's Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX is so fast is an enlarged turbo intake restrictor.
