Mladá Boleslav/Stockholm, 2 August 2013 – Record for ŠKODA: Fuel-saving champion Gerhard Plattner has defined a new standard – this time with a ŠKODA Citigo CNG. After five days and 2,619 kilometres, Plattner achieved the goal of his record-breaking trip in Stockholm today with an average consumption of 2,39 kg of natural gas per 100 km, thereby undercutting the already impressive norm-consumption values of the ŠKODA Citigo CNG and managing the whole trip on less than 100 euros fuel expenses.

The ŠKODA Citigo CNG represents exceptional environmentally-friendly mobility. With their efficient natural gas concept, ŠKODA is setting new standards in the town car Citigo. The runabout is listed with emissions of 79g CO2 per kilometre. This low value is possible thanks to using gas as fuel and the ŠKODA Green tec technology with elements such as a Start-Stop system, recuperation through brake energy regeneration and low rolling-resistance tyres. The 50 kW (68 hp) town car consumes only 2.9 kg or 4.4 m3 natural gas per 100 km.

But the fuel-saving specialist Plattner undercut these already very efficient values on his 2,619 km record-breaking journey from Vicenza, Italy to the Swedish Capital, Stockholm: It took him an average of only 2,39 kg of natural gas per 100 km, representing only 65 g CO2 emissions per kilometre. "It was tight over the last two days, but I never doubted our success. The Citigo is a real long-distance all-rounder," says a happy Plattner after his arrival in Stockholm.

After 515 km last Thursday, there are another 336 km on the program today. Here the manoeuvrability of the small ŠKODA proved to be a great asset when driving into Stockholm city centre. "We were able to squeeze through the narrow streets quickly and easily through heavy traffic and we even managed to save fuel," Plattner explains his impressions in Stockholm.

"I am very excited about this record; it's a testament to the efficiency of the CNG engine in the ŠKODA Citigo. Despite the unexpected price increases for natural gas in Italy and Sweden, I managed it on this small budget and even have 18,76 euros left," says Plattner happily. "Nine countries, over 2,619 km in five days - I felt great in this small city car even on such a long journey. And once when one natural gas filling station was unexpectedly closed, there was a fallback option," says Plattner in summary of his record run.

Small, efficient and "Simply Clever" – that's the ŠKODA Citigo. Since the end of 2011, the small car has been built in Bratislava, Slovakia, and has attracted a number of enthusiastic customers.  The CNG version of the ŠKODA Citigo is characterized by particularly high efficiency. Top speeds of 164 km/h (100 mph) are easily possible with this every day ŠKODA. Its 1-litre engine with 3 cylinders provides a high-torque 68hp. With only 2.9 kilograms of natural gas per 100 kilometres, the Citigo is one of the most economical and cost-effective vehicles in the world.

Alongside the Citigo's drag coefficient of 0.33, the low weight of the vehicle also plays an important role for Gerhard Plattner. The Citigo weighs in at a mere 1,031 kilograms, ensuring a particularly enjoyable and economical driving experience. This makes the ŠKODA Citigo CNG a fantastic car for economical use in every walk of life.
