Škoda Auto continued growing in July 2010. The number of vehicles delivered to customers from the beginning of this year has been increasing constantly, reaching 437,260 as at 31 July, 2010, i.e., 13.4 % more than last year. In July alone, Škoda sold 58,513 cars, i.e., 4.8 % more than in July 2009.
One of the major factors behind this positive result is the Chinese market where Škoda's sales in July were 54.3 % higher (15,549 vehicles more) than those achieved over the same month of 2009. However, Škoda also did well in other markets, increasing its sales over the first seven months of this year by 70.4 % in overseas regions and by 9.3 % in Eastern Europe, despite the persisting difficult situation.
Škoda's sales also grew in its domestic market – Czech customers bought altogether 34,454 vehicles from January till July 2010 (11.4 % more than last year, market share in the Czech Republic 35.1 %).
With 7,667 new Škodas registered in July alone, the brand's second largest market after China is Germany. Although the sales from January till July 2010 slumped by 38 % as compared with 2009 that, however, was exceptional owing to the government-subsidised car scrappage scheme, the 2010 figure (altogether 75,223 newly registered Škoda vehicles) is still higher than that achieved in the "standard" year 2008. As a result, the brand keeps its position as the biggest importer to Germany.
Most popular Škoda vehicles in July 2010 (as compared with July 2009): Octavia (23,988 vehicles/+11.9 %), Fabia (17,669 vehicles/-24.7 %), Superb (7,653 vehicles/+187.6 %), Yeti (3,966 vehicles), Octavia Tour (2,847 vehicles /-12.9 %), Roomster (2,390 vehicles/-46.7 %).
Says Reinhard Fleger, Škoda Auto BOD Member for Sales and Marketing: "These figures show clearly how much our customers worldwide trust the Škoda brand and its products. We at Škoda find it very motivating, but we also see it as an equally strong commitment for the future."
