Mladá Boleslav, September 15, 2010 – The largest Czech automobile manufacturer Škoda Auto has been able to continue its growth thanks to the good performance in August, both in China as well as in other important sales markets around the world. In the first eight months of the current year, 493,200 vehicles were delivered to customers (January – August 2009: 435,602; +13.2 percent). In August 2010 alone, Škoda Auto recorded a plus of 11.5 percent with 55,940 sold vehicles compared to August 2009.

"The regions in Central and Eastern Europe as well as overseas markets continue their upward trend; in China our sales have exceeded the 100,000 vehicle threshold. We are especially excited about the growing interest of our customers in the Škoda GreenLine models," said Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland, the Chairman of Škoda Auto a.s.

In China, the largest market for Škoda Auto, 115,250 vehicles were delivered in the period from January to August 2010, which represents an improvement of 71.2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year (January – August 2009: 67,324 vehicles). In total, sales in non-European markets (without China) have risen 48.6 percent.

Despite the continuing difficulties in the market conditions in Central and Eastern Europe, Škoda Auto has been able to increase its sales as well as its market share.

In the Czech Republic, the domestic market of Škoda Auto, a total of 38,257 vehicles were delivered to customers from January to August 2010 (January – August 2009: 34,973; +9.4 percent). The market share of the Škoda brand in the Czech Republic thus rose to 33.73 percent (January – August 2009: 31.05 percent).

In the Western European countries (without Germany) Škoda Auto achieved a delivery plus of 27.4 percent. For example, the markets in Portugal, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Great Britain have all reported a strong demand for Škoda vehicles.

The most popular Škoda vehicles in August 2010 (compared to August 2009) were: Octavia (23,314 vehicles / +13.2 percent), Fabia (16,514 vehicles / -14.6 percent), Superb (7,945 vehicles / +153.4 percent), Yeti (3,966 vehicles), Roomster (2,322 vehicles / -28.2 percent), Octavia Tour (1,879 vehicles / -36.4 percent).
