Prof. Dr. h.c. Vahland praises the precision and engineering of the employees
Mladá Boleslav, September 17, 2010 – Škoda Auto celebrates 110 years of tool-making in Mladá Boleslav. In the course of a ceremony on the factory premises, Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland, the chairman of Škoda Auto a.s., and Michael Oeljeklaus, the board member for production, congratulated the employees on the anniversary. At the same time, they thanked all employees for their achievement and great dedication in this area.

In the automobile industry, Škoda Auto is among the companies with the longest experience in the manufacture of tools. Since 1900, Škoda craftsmen and engineers have been making tools of world renown. "Since the first hour, Škoda tool-making has rightly enjoyed an excellent reputation. The work of the employees on these premises stands for tailored and precise work, and the highest Czech engineering," says Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland in his celebratory speech to approximately 400 guests. With this ceremony, Škoda commemorates the important birthday of a part of the company that justifiably counts as a centerpiece of the automobile production.

The expertise accumulated within the past 110 years is a competitive advantage for Škoda Auto. In the future, the importance of this part of the production for the positioning of the brand will play an even more significant role: "The tool manufacture illustrates the precision of our vehicles in a very direct way to the customers. Therefore, precision will become a new core value of the Škoda brand," Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland emphasized. "In the coming years, we will develop this brand value even further into the critical competitive advantage of Mladá Boleslav and Škoda Auto."

"We are proud to build a Škoda and the customer shall be proud to drive a Škoda. Škoda Auto wants to excite its customers with "simply clever" automobiles that are trend-setting primarily on the basis of precision, accuracy and perfection. In the more or less six weeks that I have been working in this company, the people here continue to astound me – with their creativity, their dedication and their competence," said the board member for production, Michael Oeljeklaus. Thanks to the competence of this department, Škoda Auto is able to set standards and build cars that excite people all over the world, according to Oeljeklaus.

In order to emphasize the special significance of the anniversary, a commemorative plaque was unveiled in the course of the celebrations at Škoda's Mladá Boleslav plant.
