Mladá Boleslav, January 13th, 2011 – In 2010, Škoda Auto has sold more cars than ever and achieved new records with regard to market shares and deliveries in important sales markets. With 762,600 sold vehicles worldwide (2009: 684,200), the Czech car manufacturer cracked the threshold of three quarters of a million sold vehicles for the first time. This corresponds to a growth rate of 11.5 percent compared to the previous year. The top-selling model was once again the Octavia. The Yeti and the Superb Combi also experienced an excellent development in their first full sales year. Škoda's sales in the growth markets of China, Russia, and India continued dynamically.

"We weren't just able to increase total sales to a new record level in the year 2010. Likewise, more markets than ever have reported new market share and delivery records than ever", explained Jürgen Stackmann, the Škoda board member for Sales and Marketing. "That gives us an outstanding basis for further growth in the coming years. We plan to expand our activities in all markets and want to at least double our sales worldwide until 2018. Škoda will still present several surprises this year."

On the Czech home market, Škoda was able to further expand its leading position too. The market share rose to 34.5 percent in 2010 (2009: 33.4 percent). Overall, the company sold 58,000 vehicles in the Czech Republic in the past year (2009: 56,500). This corresponds to a growth rate of 2.7 percent compared to the previous year. The Škoda Yeti was particularly successful in its first full sales year. By a clear margin, the all-rounder was both the topselling SUV as well as number one in the four-wheel vehicle segment in the Czech Republic.

In Central and Eastern Europe, cars made by Škoda continued to be in hot demand. In the Ukraine (+17.1 percent), Slovenia (+15.9 percent), Estonia (+18.7 percent), and Serbia (+18.7 percent) deliveries clearly increased at double-digit rates. In Hungary (10.6 percent) and Estonia (14.4 percent) Škoda registered record market shares.

In Western Europe, Škoda also gained market shares in the important markets. For example, not only did the brand achieve a new sales record (41,600 units) in Great Britain with a plus of 15.6 percent. At the same time, the market share has been as high as never before, with 2.1 percent. In the Netherlands, the brand sold 77.2 percent more vehicles than in the previous year (15,400 units). In Ireland, Greece, and Norway, the Škoda market share rose to more than 5 percent for the first time.

In the important growth markets of India, China, and Russia, Škoda has been experiencing continued strong growth. In all three markets, the manufacturer clearly grew at double-digit rates. In China, the largest automobile market of the world, sales increased 47.3 percent, reaching 180,500 units. In Russia, 45,600 vehicles were sold (last year: 33,000). That is a plus of 38.1 percent and a new record market share of 2.6 percent. In India, sales rose 37.7 percent to about 20,000 vehicles.

In other developing markets, Škoda also developed very successfully: for example, in Israel (+54.2 percent), in Australia (+31.8 percent) and in Algeria (+16.6 percent).

Deliveries to customers in the business year 2010 (Škoda models compared with total business years of 2009): Octavia (318,900 vehicles / +16.6 percent), Fabia (229,000 vehicles / -13.3 percent), Superb (98,900 vehicles / +121.9 percent), Yeti (52,600 vehicles), Roomster (32,300 vehicles / -31.4 percent), Octavia Tour (30.900 vehicles / -29.5 percent).
