Mladá Boleslav, February 4, 2011 – Škoda Auto presents itself with six historic models at this year's classic car fair "Paris Rétromobile 2011" (February 2-6, 2011). The company showcases the legendary Voiturette A (1906), a Laurin & Klement Škoda 110 (1928), a Škoda Superb 3000 (1939), a Škoda 1100 OHC (1958), a Motocyclette Type B (1903), as well as an original racing bike replica (the original was built around 1900). All exhibits are from the Škoda Museum in Mladá Boleslav and – with the exception of the Škoda 110 – are still in good working order.
The Voiturette A should cause considerable excitement among classic car enthusiasts and visitors of the Paris fair. The historic vehicle was rebuilt with loving attention to detail during recent years. In 1905, the Voiturette A marked the beginning of automobile manufacture at the Škoda's company seat in Mladá Boleslav – when it was still operating under the brand name "Laurin & Klement". The public's interest in the "small car" from Mladá Boleslav was great in 1905, not least due to its relatively affordable price of 3,600 crowns at the time.
"Our experts have been successful in using fragments of the coachwork in reconstructing, step by step and part by part, a fully operational car from the early days. The reconstruction took six years to complete. Our technicians did a great job: the Voiturette A has been restored to its former glory. In doing so, the original technical concept was preserved, even though many parts had to be reproduced or replaced", explained Eckhard Scholz, board member for Technical Development at Škoda Auto.
The Laurin & Klement Škoda 110 was also reproduced from a disassembled vehicle. After three years of intensive work, the car can now be put into operation again. A racing bike originally constructed by Laurin & Klement in 1900 was completely reproduced on the basis of original blueprints. The replica is just as fully operational as the Škoda Superb 3000, the Škoda 1100 OHC, and the Motocyclette Type B. The manufacturer regularly uses the historic vehicles to participate in exhibitions and classic car races.
