Vilamoura/Mladá Boleslav, 13 April, 2013 – ŠKODA has reinforced its lead at the Portugal Rally after Day 2. Just like on Friday, ŠKODA´s factory crew, Esapekka Lappi/Janne Ferm (FIN), won all of the special stages in their WRC-2 category. After a thrilling chase ride, Sepp Wiegand & Frank Christian are second.
"This has been a great day for us!", said Esapekka Lappi right after coming first also in today´s fifth special stage. "The Santana de Serra stage was highly technical and we had to be really careful. We did not have any problems, though. We are very happy now, because we are well positioned before tomorrow´s four long stages."
Sepp Wiegand had to cope with a problem on his intercom this morning: "We lost connection in the first stage, and I heard my co-driver´s instructions only now and then. I had to rely on my eyes, and we lost loads of time." After fixing the problem, the crew started a chase ride that earned them second place at the end of the day, right behind their Finnish colleagues (+4:09.8 min).
The Portugal Rally ends on Sunday with four special stages (147 kilometres), including two runs in the 52.3-kilometre long Almodovar stage known as the "royal" stage.
