San Remo, 23 September, 2011 – The ninth event of this year's IRC, the legendary San Remo Rally, has been a success story for ŠKODA so far. Freddy Loix in a Fabia Super 2000 is in the lead, followed by Andreas Mikkelsen of ŠKODA UK Motorsport who is only 2.7 sec behind him. IRC leader Jan Kopecký is fifth after Day 1.
Sunshine, almost no clouds and temperatures around 28 degrees Celsius – the weather in San Remo was great for the whole of Day 1. Consisting of seven stages (116 kilometres), Friday's programme climaxed with the event's longest 44-km-long nighttime stage. Although the fans could see dramatic duels for every second all over the day, it was the last stage that actually reshuffled the standings - Freddy Loix moved up to the lead, Andreas Mikkelsen is second, only 2.7 sec behind him. Jan Kopecký is fifth (- 34 sec).
Freddy Loix: "We had a great day! The last stage was very difficult, but we achieved an excellent time. Anyway, I am sure it will still be a tough fight on Saturday."
Jan Kopecký: "We are not happy with our position. The car is working perfectly, but we simply have to be faster on Day 2."
The San Remo Rally ends on Saturday with six stages (110 kilometres).
