Strasbourg, 1 October, 2011 – Rally de France, the last-but-one event of this year's SWRC, seems to be cursed for the Red Bull ŠKODA team. After all the bad luck on Friday, Day 2 started well thanks to fantastic times achieved by Hänninen & Markkula, but far less positive news was soon to come – while Gassner had a crash in Stage 9, another crash stopped Hänninen in Stage 12.
After a crash into a tree, Gassner's co-driver Kathi Wüstenhagen complained of pain in her back and was taken to hospital in Colmar for a check-up.
Hänninen made an excellent start today, moving up from fourth to second place by achieving fantastic times in the first three stages. However, all the hope went down the drain in the following stage (No 12) when he too had a crash. His car was then taken to the garage where the mechanics will try to repair it and, in line with the championship rules ("super-rally"), use it on Sunday.
