Corte, 11 May 2012 – Day 2 of the Corsica Rally saw a thrilling spectacle and a major change on the top ranks when Basso gave up and Mikkelsen had a tyre defect that cost him his Day 1-lead and sent him down to fifth place after Day 2. Jan Kopecký has climbed up from sixth place to second, 25 seconds behind leader Sordo.
Looking back at Day 2 that was struck by a very hot weather, Jan Kopecký thinks positive: "We have been doing very well today – we won a number of duels and have climbed up the standings, which is encouraging before the last leg. It will still be tough, though, because the drivers in the third and fourth places are just behind us."
Friday was the event's most difficult day in terms of logistics. It all started with a morning service stop in Calvi, then the teams moved to Corte and when all today's special stages were over, they all moved to Macinaggio in the very north of the island where the event will end on Saturday with the six-stage final leg (136 kilometres). Stages 10 and 14 will be covered live by Eurosport.
