San Remo, 12 October, 2012 – Jan Kopecký/Pavel Dresler, one of ŠKODA Motorsport´s factory crews, are second after today´s Stage 1 of the San Remo Rally, the penultimate event of this year´s IRC. The team´s other crew, Hänninen/Markkula, gave up after an accident in Stage 4.
Commenting on Day 1 of the event, Jan Kopecký said: "San Remo is one of the most technical events - the drivers have to change the rhythm all the time. Each of today´s stages was different - while some stretches were dry, some were pretty wet. Considering the high quality of the local drivers, it is indeed a great challenge to succeed here."
The team´s other factory crew, Juho Hänninen/Mikko Markkula, fought for the lead until today´s last stage (night-time, 44 km) in which they had an accident that forced them to give up. Both crew members are OK, though. Commenting on their bad luck, Juho Hänninen said: "We are very sorry about what happened, because our ambition here was to succeed. However, we will keep our fingers crossed for Jan and Pavel – we hope they achieve the best possible result for the brand."
The San Remo Rally continues on Saturday with the final six stages (119 kilometres in total).
