Stockholm, May 2nd, 2012 – ŠKODA supplies 45 Superb Combi as the official fleet to this year's IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship. The International Ice Hockey Federation's world championship will be held in Finland and Sweden from May 4th to May 20th. 20 cars of the ŠKODA fleet were presented to the Swedish Organising Committee in formation of a giant ice hockey stick on Stockholm's famous downhill slope 'Hammarbybacken' during an official handover ceremony.
The 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship will mark the 20th anniversary of ŠKODA as official main sponsor. This is a jubilee without precedent in sports world championship sponsoring history and has even been recognised by GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS as 'the longest main sponsorship in the history of sports world championships'.
In order to visibly symbolize this enduring engagement and passion for the sport, ŠKODA has now arranged 20 ŠKODA Superb Combi to shape the 'world's largest ice hockey stick' on Stockholm's famous downhill skiing slope 'Hammarbybacken'. The spectacular formation of ŠKODA cars took place on the occasion of an official ceremony, during which ŠKODA handed over 20 fleet cars to the Organizing Committee in Stockholm. Two days before the start of the 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, this far visible setup accelerated the ice hockey fever in Sweden's capital to the next level in a most impressive fashion.
The 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship is co-hosted by Finland and Sweden. ŠKODA's official fleet will carry officials, guests and material using 45 ŠKODA Superb Combis. 25 cars in ŠKODA "Ambition Business" trim will be used in Helsinki; the other 20 cars in "Elegance" trim will operate in Stockholm and be partly transferred by ship to Helsinki for the championship's final round.
