Honours for ŠKODA at 2012 “Automotive Brand Contest”

Mladá Boleslav, October 22nd, 2012 – Automobile manufacturer ŠKODA has just taken honours at the 2012 "Automotive Brand Contest", an international design and brand competition. ŠKODA won the prize in the "architecture" category for its presence at last year's Frankfurt International Auto Show (IAA). In awarding the prize, German Design Council, a highly respected design association, recognised ŠKODA's successful communicative representation of the topics of international growth and its new corporate identity in its appearance at IAA.

An expert jury at German Design Council's design and brand contest named ŠKODA the winner in the "architecture" category. The brand's highly regarded appearance at IAA in 2011 focused especially on its positioning as a global player in connection with its international model offensive and its new corporate design.

A car for the international markets
As a product highlight, the "MissionL" at the time embodied the brand's realignment in a special way. A close-to-series model in the brand's new design, it provided a tangible preview of the current ŠKODA Rapid.

The Rapid, the brand's new model, made at its main plant in Mladá Boleslav, has just seen its world debut at the Paris Automobile Salon and will be introduced in Europe from October 2012. From 2013, it will also be built as a market-specific version in China and from early 2014 in Russia as well.

A fair stand that means the world
A "key visual" of ŠKODA's IAA fair stand was a giant 3D globe, the design language of which reappeared throughout the stand, with individual continents forming "codes" providing fair visitors with smartphone download access to films about the brand and its models.

Further enhancing the company's internationality was the fact that stand personnel were clad in traditional dress from the countries in which ŠKODA is currently represented.

In the view of the contest jury, ŠKODA succeeded in Frankfurt in consistently and creatively communicating its brand messages and anchoring them with visitors. Munich-based creative consultants becc agency assisted ŠKODA in producing its IAA presence.

"Automotive Brand Contest" is a neutral international design contest for automobile brands, through which German Design Council in 2011 began recognising outstanding product and communications design in the automobile industry. Prizes are awarded in eleven contest categories focusing not just on the design of the vehicles. Rather, the contest recognises brand-typical design of all media involved. A winner is chosen in each category with the overall champion being named "Best of Best." The expert jury comprises independent representatives from the media, design, brand communication and academic communities. This year's award ceremony was held at the 2012 Paris Auto Salon.

German Design Council is an independent institution that is active internationally and supports companies in effectively communication design competence and at the same time raising design awareness in the wider public. Created in 1953 as a foundation by act of the Bundestag, the lower house of Germany's parliament, German Design Council holds contests, exhibitions, conferences and seminars and produces publications to foster excellence in design.
