Funchal, 28 July, 2012 – Despite a double tyre defect in Stage 3, ŠKODA Motorsport's factory crew Juho Hänninen & Mikko Markkula are third after Leg 1 of the Madeira Rally, this year's seventh European Championship event.
"We had two tyre defects in one place that cost us nearly 50 seconds. We are not giving it up, although it looks like only our rivals' mistakes can help us move up the standings. However, our ambition is to seal our championship lead, so we will play it reasonably safe on Sunday", says the Finnish driver of the factory ŠKODA Fabia Super 2000 Juho Hänninen who won six of the 13 special stages of Day 1.
The Madeira Rally ends on Sunday with the final six stages (71 kilometres). Portugal's Bruno Magalhaes who won this event last year is in the lead after Day 1, followed by Vítor Sá (also of Portugal).
