Ypres, 23 June, 2012 – Juho Hänninen & Mikko Markkula of ŠKODA Motorsport put in a great performance to win the Ypres Rally in Belgium, beat seven times winner of this event Freddy Loix in a Peugeot Super 2000 who came second and win points for both the Manufacturers category of the IRC and the Drivers category of the European Championship. ŠKODA has thus reinforced its lead in the IRC series and Hänninen & Markkula have sealed their top position in the European Championship standings.

Hänninen & Markkula apparently forgot the bad memories of the Belgian Rally near Ypres that they had from the previous years and are celebrating their second victory this year in both the IRC series and the European Championship: "A great rally and a great result. It´s been difficult, mainly on Saturday - 200 special-stage kilometres required constant concentration and hard work. The car was prepared perfectly – a big thank you to all the guys in our team. This is indeed a valuable victory, because it has earned us points for both championships."

The great performance by Fabia Super 2000s is underlined by Belgium´s Pieter Tsjoen who finished third. The IRC leader Andreas Mikkelsen did not make it to the finish line in Belgium, but he remains top of the standings in the Drivers category of the IRC series.

Concurrently with the Belgian Rally, Jan Kopecký & Pavel Dresler, the other crew of ŠKODA Motorsport, dominated the Hustopeče Rally to remain unbeaten in this year´s Czech Championship.
