Mladá Boleslav, August 14, 2012 – The Czech automobile manufacturer ŠKODA will participate in this year's classic car rally Sachsen Classic with four attractive historic vehicles. The historic ŠKODA foursome includes unique classic cars built in the 1930s, 1940s and 1960s. The Czech ŠKODA rally driver Jan Kopecký will start in a ŠKODA 1000 MB Rallye.

Spectators at the Sachsen Classic 2012 may look forward to an aerodynamically elegant ŠKODA coupe, two ŠKODA convertibles and a ŠKODA sports car that are part of the collection of the ŠKODA Auto Museum. "We are proud to participate with four beautiful vehicles from the collection of our museum in one of the most popular classic car rallies," says Eva Ticová, the head of the restoration workshop of the ŠKODA Auto Museum.

Jan Kopecký looks forward to the classic car rally as well: "ŠKODA enjoys one of the richest traditions among automobile brands worldwide. That is particularly true for the sports cars and the 111-year old motor sport track record of the brand. I am excited to participate by driving a historic ŠKODA racecar in Saxony. It is a special rally for me this time," says the current IRC vice champion and the leading racecar driver of the Czech rally championship. The ŠKODA 1000 MB Rallye built in the year 1968 is a rarity in the world of motor sports and is owned by the brand's own museum. The four-cylinder engine with a displacement of one liter – modified for use in racing – generates 90 hp. The car's top speed is approx. 170 km/h.

The oldest vehicle participating in Saxony is the ŠKODA Popular Monte Carlo built in Mladá Boleslav in the year 1936. The elegant coupe from the pre-war years was only produced 72 times. When participating in the well-known 'Concours d'Elegance' of the classic car scene, the ŠKODA Popular Monte Carlo regularly achieves outstanding results. Its black streamlined body contrasts effectively with numerous chrome parts. The impressive vehicle with rear-wheel drive is powered by a four-cylinder four-stroke engine with a displacement of 1,386 cm³ and an output of 30 hp. Its maximum speed amounts to 110 km/h.

The elegant convertible ŠKODA Tudor dates back to the late 1940s. The vehicle, which was built in the year 1948, has been a real eye-catcher at numerous classic car rallies and keeps attracting classic car fans. The Tudor is powered by a four-cylinder with a displacement of 1,089 cm³ and an output of 32 hp. Its maximum speed amounts to 100 km/h. The Tudor was built more than 80,000 times during the years from 1946 to 1952.

Finally, the ŠKODA Felicia (the type 994) from the year 1961 gives homage to the 'sweet sixties'. The rare blue-green paint hides a four-cylinder with a displacement of 1,089 cm³ and an output of 50 hp. The ŠKODA Felicia also participated in the Sachsen Classic last year.

The classic car rally Sachsen Classic will take place for the tenth time this year. It is among the most popular classic car events. Awaiting the participants is a route of 615 kilometers through the attractive Saxon countryside. The rally starts on August 16, 2012 in Zwickau. Following a tour around Zwickau including a side-trip to the Sachsenring, the cars will drive via Leipzig to the Saxon state capital of Dresden. The finish will take place at the "Transparent Manufacture" of Volkswagen on August 18.
