Mladá Boleslav, December 16th, 2011 – Today, ŠKODA commissioned the rebuilt assembly line for the manufacture of rear axles at the component plant in Mladá Boleslav. The expansion measures have increased the production capacity to 1,700 axles per day. For this purpose, the existing facility was extensively modernized and its level of automation was increased. The expanded assembly line is used for producing rear axles for new ŠKODA models. The investment is an important measure within the framework of the ŠKODA Growth Strategy. The manufacturer wants to increase its worldwide sales to at least 1.5 million units per year by 2018.

"With the ongoing largest model offensive in its history, ŠKODA wants to grow significantly in the coming years," emphasizes Michael Oeljeklaus, the ŠKODA board member for the area of Production. "To support this goal, we are investing in new production technologies and will successively increase the capacities in our plants. We are stepping on the gas in all areas of production and will consistently continue to improve and increase the output and productivity of our manufacture. The new axle production facilities in Mladá Boleslav make an important contribution toward that."

Whereas in the past 1,000 axles per day were manufactured, the daily capacity has risen to 1,700 axles now. For this purpose, the existing production line was extended to 60 meters. In order to increase productivity, certain production steps are now fully automated.

The axle production is an important part of the ŠKODA component plant in Mladá Boleslav. A few months ago, a new assembly line for front axles was commissioned. Besides axles, the plant also manufactures transmissions and engines for ŠKODA models.
