Mikolajki, 29 September, 2012 – Esapekka Lappi driving for ŠKODA Motorsport is in the lead of the Poland Rally after its first half. Lappi and his co-driver Janne Ferme are making their debut in a factory ŠKODA Fabia Super 2000.
The Poland Rally started on Friday on a 2.5-kilometre-long circuit in Mikolajki with a qualifier to determine the start numbers for the Saturday section. Esapekka Lappi won and was therefore entitled to choose his start number. On Saturday he was fastest in six of the seven stages in total and is in the lead before Sunday´s final section, 14 seconds ahead of Poland´s Kosciuszko. Solowow, also of Poland (both in Ford Fiesta Super 2000s), is third.
Commenting on Day 1 of the Poland Rally, Esapekka Lappi said: "We have been gradually getting used to the car, and it´s been working very well so far. The result after Leg 1 is great, but our main ambition remains the same - finish this rally OK. Both Janne and I are looking forward to tomorrow."
Taking place in the surroundings of the Mazur Lakes, the Poland Rally ends on Sunday with the final six stages (123 kilometres).
