Las Palmas, 22 March, 2013 – ŠKODA Motorsport´s Jan Kopecký & Pavel Dresler are second after Day 1 of the Rally Islas Canarias. Leading by more than a minute, Robert Kubica has been dominating the third event of this year´s European Raly Championship so far. Section 1 was strongly affected by fast weather changes this morning.

The event started in weather that is not really typical of this part of the world – rain and fog. Commenting on Day 1, two times winner of the Rally Islas Canarias Jan Kopecký says: "This is our fourth appearance here, and we have never had weather like this on the Canary Islands. One stage in rain, one on wet roads and in fog and the next one in lovely sunny weather. Robert is doing a great job – our loss from the morning section is far too big now, but we are not going to slacken our efforts and concentration." Known as a successful Fomula 1 driver, the leader after Day 1 Robert Kubica is driving a Citroen DS3 S2000 RRC with a 1.6 turbo engine. Craig Breen in a Peugeot Super 2000 is third.

Jan Kopecký & Pavel Dresler are looking to score a "Canary hat-trick" and continue ŠKODA´s success story here - drivers of factory ŠKODA Fabia Super 2000s won this event three times in the last three seasons.

The Rally Islas Canarias continues with the final leg on Saturday – a further six special stages and 102 kilometres in total.
