568,990 deliveries (plus 12.8 percent) mean a new sales record
Operating profit increases 64.4 percent to CZK 8 billion (previous year CZK 4.9 billion)
Net liquidity significantly improved
Mladá Boleslav, October 27, 2010 – In the first nine months of 2010, Škoda Auto has significantly increased its turnover and the operating profit as compared to the previous year and has sold more cars than ever. Turnover rose 16.3 percent to CZK 160 billion. Compared to the same period of last year, the operating profit increased disproportionately at 64.4 percent and amounted to CZK 8 billion. With 568,990 deliveries from January to September of the current year, the largest Czech automobile manufacturer also scored a new sales record (plus 12.8 percent compared to the previous year).
"The positive financial figures of the first nine months of 2010 are the result of the sustained and profitable growth strategy of the company", emphasized Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland, chairman of the board of Škoda Auto a.s. "Never before we have sold more cars in the first nine months of a year than this year. We will continue on this path. In doing so, we want to continue to expand considerably, in particular on the global growth markets of Russia, India and China, while at the same time strengthening our good position in Europe." For the entire year of 2010, Vahland expects a clear increase in deliveries and the operating profit.
Besides rising sales, the reasons for the significant growth of the operating profit (plus 64.4 percent compared to the same period last year) are an improved model mix as well as cost optimizations. Thus, deliveries of the new models Škoda Yeti and Škoda Superb accelerated disproportionately in the first nine months. Also, the liquid assets of the company developed very positively: net liquidity rose about 58 percent to CZK 45.2 billion in the first nine months.
Sales on the growth markets outside of Europe maintained their dynamics unabatedly. With 134,470 vehicles, Škoda sold almost 65 percent more vehicles in China than in the comparable period of last year (81,652). In India, 14,224 vehicles and thus 36.6 percent more vehicles were delivered (10,415).
In Western Europe (without Germany), deliveries increased as well. A large share of this positive development was due to considerable increases particularly in Great Britain, France, Spain, Austria, Belgium, and in Switzerland.
In its home market of the Czech Republic, Škoda Auto was able to expand its leading position (43,666 deliveries; +9.2 percent). In the other markets of Central and Eastern Europe, Škoda Auto also experienced above-average growth. In Russia, the company recorded a sales plus of 35.2 percent as deliveries reached 34,273 units.
