Mladá Boleslav, 7 May, 2012 – The upcoming Corsica Rally is one of the climaxes of this year's IRC series and probably the most difficult event of the whole IRC series. The rally will see ŠKODA Motorsport's Kopecký & Dresler plus a further six Fabia Super 2000s in action, including one to be driven by reigning IRC champion Andreas Mikkelsen of ŠKODA UK Motorsport.

318 special stage kilometres, 756 liaison km, 14 stages and 4 different service zones – the Corsica Rally will be scattered throughout the island, which will be a challenge for the drivers, their teams, as well as the organisers, particularly in terms of logistics.

Jan Kopecký approaches the fourth event of this year's IRC series with respect: "This is a very difficult rally in which everybody has to use all of their strength. We will be faced with strong competition from a number of top-class drivers and there will be no space and no time for driving too tactically, but we are prepared to fight for the top ranks as usual."

Besides Kopecký's car, the event will see a further six ŠKODA Fabia Super 2000s in action, including reigning IRC champion Andreas Mikkelsen of ŠKODA UK Motorsport with a factory Fabia Super 2000, Sepp Wiegand of ŠKODA AUTO Deutschland and Hermann Gassner of Red Bull. All drivers to appear on the start line will have a chance to measure their strength with Giandomenico Basso who won the first IRC championship in 2006 and the recent Rally 1000 Miglia, as well as Danny Sordo who regularly appears in the World Championship.

This year's Corsica Rally copies the profile of traditional events of the 1980s and 1990s when the event was part of the World Championship, and is this year's first event to be covered live on Eurosport (four stages in total – Stages 5 and 8 on Friday and Stages 10 and 14 on Saturday).
