Mlada Boleslav, June 4th, 2012 – Effective September 1st, 2012, Frank Welsch will become responsible for technical development at board level. He will be succeeding Eckhard Scholz, who will head up Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (Volkswagen Nutzfahrzeuge) as Speaker of the Board of Management.
Also effective September 1st, 2012, Werner Eichhorn will become a member of the ŠKODA board of management and assume responsibility of sales and marketing. He will be succeeding Jürgen Stackmann, who will move to Volkswagen Group's headquarters in Wolfsburg as Head of Marketing for Volkswagen Group and the Volkswagen brand.
Frank Welsch is currently Head of Development Body Design was last responsible for overall vehicle development in Volkswagen's development department. Frank Welsch is an avowed engineer who began his career with Volkswagen Group in 1994 in research and development. His career took him to China as Head of Product Development at Shanghai Volkswagen He will be taking over the remit of Eckhard Scholz who as head of development as ŠKODA was supremely influential in the company's largest model offensive ever, which saw the ŠKODA Rapid and the ŠKODA Citigo significantly expanding the brand's model palette. This involved the brand introducing a new design language and setting new benchmarks in roominess, functionality and price/value ratio. In the years ahead, ŠKODA will be introducing a new model every six months on average.
Werner Eichhorn's previous position was Head of Volkswagen Sales and Marketing Germany. He is a sales professional who began his career 31 years ago in Volkswagen Group sales before serving in various functions for Volkswagen and Audi brands, among them as Managing Director of Audi Division FAW-VW in China.
He will be succeeding Jürgen Stackmann, who was instrumental in designing and implementing ŠKODA's growth strategy. Achievements under Jürgen Stackmann's leadership include a fundamental revision of the brand's appearance from brand logo to dealerships' design.
Winfried Vahland, ŠKODA CEO, thanked both outgoing board members for their extremely successful contribution to the company: "Eckhard Scholz and Jürgen Stackmann are inseparably linked with ŠKODA's growth strategy. Successfully expanding our model palette and strengthening our sales activities make up two crucial pillars of ŠKODA's strategy for the future. We will resolutely continue on this course with the help of Werner Eichhorn and Frank Welsch."
