Mladá Boleslav/Stuttgart, November 25th, 2011 – Tomáš Fencl, a graduate of the ŠKODA Vocational School for Mechanical Engineering, is among the Volkswagen Group's 27 best apprentices of the year 2011. For his outstanding performance, Fencl was honored with the "Best Apprentice Award" presented annually by the Volkswagen AG. The Group uses the award regularly to recognize particularly good professional performances by its apprentices. The award ceremony took place within the framework of a meeting of the Group Board of Management and the Global Group Works Council in Stuttgart, Germany, yesterday.

"We are happy and proud of the fact that, once again, a junior employee of ŠKODA is among the select group of award winners," Bohdan Wojnar, the ŠKODA board member for Human Resources, remarked. "I congratulate Tomáš Fencl in the name of the entire board of directors. The honor again confirms the high level of training in our company and the high competence of its employees. A well-trained and competent staff is a central factor for the success of the ŠKODA Growth Strategy. We also find that our company is becoming increasingly attractive for new employees."

The ŠKODA award winner, Tomáš Fencl, received his theoretical and practical training as a mechanic and equipment operator at the ŠKODA Vocational School for Mechanical Engineering from 2006 to 2010. After the completion of his apprenticeship, he found employment in the Technical Development Department of ŠKODA. The award honors his professional performance during the time of his training, as well as the results achieved within the framework of his current work.

The ŠKODA Vocational School for Mechanical Engineering is among the largest and best training institutions of its kind in the Czech Republic. After the completion of their professional education, its graduates are sought after as true specialists. At the present time, 928 students are enrolled at the school; 162 of them within the framework of correspondence courses.

The Volkswagen Group has been presenting the "Best Apprentice Award" to the best trainees of the Group and its brands throughout the world since 2001. This year, apprentices working at the Chinese plants of Shanghai Volkswagen and FAWVolkswagen, as well as at Volkswagen Motor Polska and the German plants in Osnabrück and Dresden, participated for the first time.
