Mladá Boleslav, 15th November 2012 – The European Commission acknowledges the carmaker ŠKODA, for their exemplary attitude towards older employees. As part of a European project, ŠKODA's Seniority Project achieved second place in the category 'Workplaces for People of All Ages'.  This was the first time that ŠKODA was awarded the prize and is yet another success in the 'The Most Responsible Company in the Czech Republic 2012' competition, in which ŠKODA had previously won the 'Most Senior Friendly Company' category.

For years, ŠKODA has been in the proprietary 'Seniority' program on targeted health promotion measures for older employees. The program, developed in partnership with the trade union, OS KOVO, focuses on sports offers, free health check-ups and ergonomics in the workplace. The ŠKODA program recently snatched first place in the national competition 'The Most Responsible Company in the Czech Republic' and therefore advanced to the European competition. Now, ŠKODA has taken second place in the category 'Workplaces for People of All Ages' as part of the EU Project 2012, 'European Year of Active Aging and Solidarity between Generations'.

"The know-how and experience of older employees are invaluable to our company," says Bohdan Wojnar, the ŠKODA AUTO Board Member for HR who accepted the award in person.  "Older employees often have special requirements in terms of ergonomic workplaces or heath matters. It goes without saying that we, at ŠKODA AUTO, take these issues into special consideration," comments the HR Director. "This commitment is part of our comprehensive social policy. The awards in the competition and in the European Project are confirmation and encouragement for our strategy."

ŠKODA's motto is 'prevention is better than a cure'. Specially trained experts take care of, for example, possible heath-friendly designs of workstations in production. Regular health days, in which employees can have medical check-ups in the company, also play an important role. As a result of discussion with trade union there was introduced a programme of health care benefits to promote heath care among ŠKODA employees.

The program for older employees is an integral part of the company's social policy, which goes well beyond all statutory requirements. For the various activities in this area, ŠKODA has recently been honoured as 'Employer of the Decade'. Moreover, in the 'Trendence Graduate Barometer' survey, the carmaker came third in the ranking of the most attractive company in the Czech Republic and secured the title of 'Advancer or the Year'.
